Activities

The Mass Spectrometry Facility analyses proteins and peptides by mass spectrometry. It serves the needs of investigators at IFOM-IEO Campus by providing expert assistance in biochemical experiments and data interpretation as well as scientific and technical knowledge in proteomics.
At the moment, the facility provides service on the high throughput analyses of gel bands and liquid samples using electrospray (ESI) and matrix-assisted laser desorption (MALDI) ionization techniques.
ESI is accomplished by on-line nano-LC/MS. The LC systems are 1100 Agilent nanoLCs. The mass spectrometers are an LTQ-FT from Thermo Electron and Q-Star XL from Applied Biosystems.
MALDI is carried out on an Applied Biosystems 4800 TOF. We also have a Dionex nano-LC coupled to a MALDI spotter for high-throughput analysis.
