An award-winning orange juice

IEO scientist Chiara Segré won the EMBO/EMBL Science writing prize, awarded annually for an outstanding piece of science writing that is attractive and engaging to read for non-scientists. Eligible is any life scientist working in Europe up to 35 years of age. The entries are judged by a multinational jury including EMBL PhD students and EMBO members. Chiara, who works in Susanna Chiocca's group and just got a degree in Molecular Biology at University Milano-Bicocca, won the prestigious prize with an essay entitled "Mandarin Orange Juice", on the origin of leukemia.
The prize and award of euro 1.000 were presented to Chiara at the EMBL PhD symposium (Heidelberg, October 2007), where she read her piece in front of the audience.
